The materials Engineer :
Welding is primarily responsible for welding engineering, requiring specific knowledge and experience related to welding processes, filler material selection, joint design, flaw detection and prevention, procedure / welder qualification requirements, and appropriate related documentation.

Other industry standards related to Materials Engineering Additional responsibilities may include Materials Engineering activities such as material selection, failure analysis, corrosion prediction and control, and inspection engineering.
Expertise in specification, inspection and testing of metallic and non:
metallic materials, coatings, linings and cathodic protection are desired.
Principle responsibilities include; :
Perform welding engineering, including selection of welding process, filler material, welding procedure details, and specification of appropriate non:
destructive testing for new equipment fabrication as well as repairs / alterations of existing equipment.
Support implementation of recommendations and assist in acceptance of completed welding activities.

Conduct Root Cause Failure Analyses on plant equipment, and recommend improvements to prevent recurrence.
:
Use BASF and independent laboratories for failure analysis and metallurgical investigation.

Recommend inspection methods and technology for non:
destructive as well as destructive testing.
:
Select materials of construction for new and replacement equipment.
:
Recommend coating and lining materials.
:
Specify and perform corrosion testing.
:
Recommend cathodic protection systems as appropriate for corrosion prevention.
:
Support risk based inspection program with knowledge of corrosion / damage mechanisms.
Qualifications :
BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering or Metallurgy or Metallurgical Engineering, and minimum 10
years of experience in Materials Engineering field with emphasis on welding specification and inspection.

Expertise in welding processes.
:
Strong working knowledge of welding and materials requirements in ASME, ASTM, API, and ASM codes and standards.

Strong knowledge of Non Destructive Testing methods and related API/ASNT testing and inspection requirements.

Outstanding communication and conflict resolution skills.
