The organization is responsible for overseeing Galveston's tourism efforts, Galveston Island Beach Patrol (GIPB) and Coastal Zone Management (CZM).
The Park Board is funded primarily through Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) and beach user fees for the six parks that they manage.
Tourism pays for tourism as no sales or property tax is collected by the Park Board.
The nine-member board is comprised of volunteer residents with diverse business backgrounds.
Each is required to serve at least two years and must also serve on one of the Park Board's advisory committees.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DIRECTOR OF MARKETINGAs our Associate Director of Marketing, you have the vital responsibility of taking the lead on implementing our Visit Galveston marketing strategy.
In collaboration with the Senior Director of Marketing and the Marketing team, you let the world know that our great island city is the best destination for their family vacation, big event, or casual getaway.
To achieve this kind of outreach, you oversee a number of tasks each day, from market research to media planning, budget management, website improvement, trend analysis, and more.
A coach and mentor at heart, with guidance from the Senior Director of Marketing, you lead your team in an encouraging way, setting goals together, training them in their responsibilities, and overseeing their professional development.
You work closely with the sales and destination services teams to meet departmental goals.
Regular sales and marketing meetings are a priority for you to be sure that everyone is up to speed on upcoming events, campaigns, and special projects.
You use your creative skills to direct and manage the development of content needed for all promotions.
You work with the Marketing team on the development, maintenance and marketing of the destination's promotional website and ensure the website is a solid extension of the Galveston brand image.
You and the team plan and implement interactive marketing campaigns and promotions that support brand positioning.
A team player, you seek out partners in your efforts, such as the state tourism office and other interested third parties.
At times, you attend tourism events and exhibits so that you can network and make sure that the travel industry is fully aware of who and where we are.
In addition, you keep an eye on local signage and publications to see to it that our visitors are receiving a top-notch experience in our city.

years of experience in marketing, preferably in the tourism industryExperience in coordinating multiple projects simultaneouslyExperience with a CMS (content management system)Excellent digital marketing and social media knowledge, including proficiency with related marketing softwareWillingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidaysWillingness to receive training to become a Certified Tourism AmbassadorValid Class C driver's licenseManagement experience is highly preferred.
Certification as a CMP (Certified Meeting Professional), CDMP (Certified Destination Management Professional), or CTE (Certified Tourism Executive) is also desired.
