Summary:
The Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all volunteer programs, including, but not limited to, the adult, teen, community service volunteers, as well as involvement in any events that require a volunteer presence.
In addition, the coordinator is responsible for overseeing all outreach programs.
Essential Duties and Functions:
Oversees the overall operations of the volunteer program, including maintaining excellent record keeping.
Develop and maintain the GIHS Volunteer Manual, as well as volunteer job descriptions.
Review and approve/reject all volunteer applications.
Develop recruitment methods and participate in volunteer recruitment.
Determines schedule and distribution of tasks for all GIHS volunteers.
Maintains working knowledge of GIHS adoptions and intake procedures and can not only train volunteers in these areas when needed, but can also cover shifts and assist if necessary.
Organize and lead regular volunteer meetings, orientations and trainings in accordance with GIHS policy.
Collaboration with other departments is expected.
Execute disciplinary measures for all volunteers under the supervision of the Executive Director, including termination of volunteers when necessary.
Prepare monthly reports for the Executive Director on all volunteer and outreach activities.
Ensure all animals are being handled humanely, maintaining a safe and low-stress interaction between volunteers and animals.
Handle volunteer questions and concerns appropriately and in a timely manner when necessary.
Organize all, company, school and other community projects that collaborate with GIHS.
Attend GIHS events as necessary and coordinate appropriate volunteer resources.
Follow established animal handling, cleaning, feeding and safety procedures.
Report and document concerns about animal behavior and health to management.
Ensure all volunteers, community groups and children handle animals in a low-stress, safe and humane way at all times.
Handle monetary transactions accurately and securely.
Provide excellent customer service to the public, volunteers, and other staff members at all times.
Participate in staff and department meetings and training opportunities.
Be prepared to assist in any disaster affecting GIHS.
Follow and promote to the public all GIHS policies and philosophies.
Handle animals humanely and safely at all times.
Demonstrate a high quality of work standards and work ethics.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.
Knowledge and Experience Required:
Experience in a customer service-related field, preferred.
Experience with non-profit organizations and volunteer programs preferred.
Familiarity with Shelterluv Animal Management Software a plus.
Experience with behavioral needs of companion animals.
Experience in animal welfare related position (2yrs+) Skills Required:
Comfort handling all companion animals, including but not limited to dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, rodents, and birds.
Exceptional customer service skills.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, with staff, volunteers, and GIHS clients.
Ability to make sound behavioral decisions that support GIHS's mission and are in the best interest of every animal.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of Excel and Word.
Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Physical Requirements:
Constant:
Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
Working with a computer screen for the majority of the day.
Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Working with animals:
including retrieving animals from kennels; working with potentially aggressive animals that may bite, scratch, or otherwise cause injury; and working with animals with potential zoonotic diseases.
Driving to different locations as needed; may include loading and unloading of animals in kennels and other marketing/promotion materials.
Occasional:
Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
Adjusting or moving objects, including animals, up to 50 pounds in all directions.
Environmental Conditions:
May include noisy environments, including barking and other animal noises May include pungent smells from animal caretaking May include work in small and/or enclosed spaces Regularly sits at a computer station and operates electronic equipment.
Walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs.
Due to nature of shelter work, may be exposed to deceased, fractious, or aggressive animals; common allergens; hostile or irate persons; zoonotic or other diseases; unpleasant noises, odors, or sights; and extreme temperatures.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
