In this exciting role, you will oversee a diverse array of tasks associated with the maintenance and repair of ferryboats.
You'll work as part of a team helping with machinery repairs and handling marine vessels.
You will encompass a wide spectrum of responsibilities ranging from preventative maintenance and safety measures to ensuring shipyard cleanliness.
The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, the ability to work well in a team environment, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
Prior experience in transportation maintenance is preferred, but not required.

gov) Position Description Job Description Assists in routine maintenance and repair of ferryboats, landings, shore facilities, marine equipment/machinery and/or grounds.
Work requires frequent contact with private entities.
Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties Assists in inspecting progressing shipyard work and/or vessel machinery, equipment, and systems.
Assists in performing routine preventative maintenance checks and adjustments on equipment, machinery, and systems.
Assists in the major repair or overhaul of machinery, equipment and/or systems.
Assist with daily log if watch activities, operating machinery, and equipment statistics.
Cleans engine room, washes down ferryboats, chips rust and paints ferryboats as needed.
Cleans shop and maintains grounds.
Ensures strict compliance with the Federal Waters Pollution Control Act.
Assists in performing routine ferryboat maintenance and repair work including, but not limited to, refueling, changing oil, lubricating parts and machinery, replacing batteries changing cables and cleaning and pumping out bilges.
Participates in periodic all hands drills and emergency exercises.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Licenses and Certifications Valid driver's license.
This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Must have required US Coast Guard (USCG) certifications and/or documents appropriate for the position and vessel being operated.
For Galveston Ferry Operations:
Must have a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) at time off application.
USCG-Mer Mar Doc-Ord Seaman/Wi (must have within 90 days of hire) Competencies Methods and procedures used in the maintenance and repair of marine equipment, machinery, facilities, and ferryboats.
Emergency response procedures.
Applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external.
Firefighting.
Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment and mechanical devices of the trade.
Maintain a save working relationship.
Work in varying conditions to include heavy traffic, overhead power lines and underground utilities.
Work in cramped spaces (bend, stoop, crawl) and at varied heights.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Medium work:
Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs Standing-prolonged periods of time Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other devices.
Subject to air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals Subject to noise Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection Close Visual Acuity-work includes visual inspection of small defects/parts.
