GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Responsible for assisting and contributing to the nursing process with on-going systematic data collection, assisting in health assessment, identifying goals, recording observations, and patient health education. Reports to the Director of Nursing, Health Services Administrator.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility with the ability to perform continuous CPR until relief is available.
Administers and documents medications on the MAR.
Assists with histories and physicals on inmates/patients.
Assesses health status of inmates/patients and refers to correct level of healthcare provider.
Assists providers as needed with patient examinations and treatments.
Documents all nursing care provided.
Performs venipuncture and I.V. therapy, if certified.
Per provider's orders, collects samples, specimens, and/or cultures.
Implements and follows up on provider verbal and written orders if permitted.
Educates inmates and correctional staff on healthcare information.
Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills.
Adheres to security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
Follows Universal Precautions and other infection control policies.
In a team relationship with the Registered Nurse, contributes to the Nursing Assessment.
- Initiates the admission process and assists with the identification of recurrent physical and mental health problems/symptoms and any behavioral changes of the inmate/patient.
- Collects relative data through observation, interview, other healthcare team members, and communicates changes in the patient condition to appropriate patient care providers.
- Records all data obtained through assessment in the patient's health record.
In a team relationship with the Registered Nurse, contributes to the Nursing Care Plan.
- Assists with patient care and participates in multi-disciplinary conferences.
- Assists in identifying short and long term timed measurable goals.
- Assists in prioritizing when planning care to meet the patient needs.
- Assists in creating a written plan.
Transcribes and posts all written or verbal therapeutic orders generated by the provider.
Assists provider in clinic and with minor medical/surgical procedures.
Initiates and documents prescribed treatments for nursing interventions in accordance with policy and procedure.
Counts CDS Drugs and contraband.
Administers routine and /or PRN medications as prescribed.
Communicates observations and changes in inmate/patient condition to healthcare team.
Practices universal precautions when providing nursing care.
Assists in maintaining a neat, clean, and safe environment for patients and coworkers.
Attends all scheduled in-service programs and staff meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Education
Graduate from a Licensed Vocational Nursing Program and currently licensed in Texas. Active CPR certification is required.

Knowledge of the institutions security regulations.

Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Ability to work as a member of a team.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
