Responsibilities:

Collects, accurately labels and forwards specimens such as sputum and urine for laboratory analysis; demonstrates a reliable and dependable ability to follow through with designated responsibilities involving the care and handling of specimens.

Responsible for informing the RN and/or physician of any pertinent changes in the condition of the patient.
E8.
Maintain competency in performing skills outlined in the competency skills checklist.
E9.
Assists physician with procedures, as necessary (i.
e.
, bone marrow biopsy, thoracentesis, chest tube insertion, subclavian line insertion).
E10.
Responsible for administration of medication, knowledgeable of actions, indications, contraindications, adverse reactions, dosage and route of all drugs administered.
E11.
Maintains control narcotics; correctly signing, counting, transfer of keys to relief and including co-signing of wastage.
E12.
Examines physician's orders for clarity, completeness and accuracy.
Applies critical thinking skills.
E13.
Understands and functions within limits of the State Nurse Practice Act.
E14.
At all times, delivers care that is safe in conjunction with the physician's orders, hospital policy and nursing standards.
E15.
Adheres to and complies with HCA Code of Conduct as part of our Ethics and Compliance program.
Attends annual training session.
INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS:
Works with professional and non-professional employees of the hospital and with physicians, patients, and their families.
